Everything leaving Max (formerly HBO Max) in November 2023

It Begins with Season 1, Full Episode 1 | A Discovery of Witches

Everything ends. No, I’m not having an existential crisis; I’m looking at Max‘s lineup in November! While it’s true that the streamer will be adding lots of new shows and movies, it will also be saying goodbye to quite a few films and series in November.

Recommended Videos

Probably the most significant things leaving Max this month are the AMC+ shows A Discovery of Witches, Dark Winds, Killing Eve, Interview with the Vampire, Ride with Norman Reedus, Fear the Walking Dead, and Gangs of London. This isn’t surprising as they were on a three-month loan from the rival streamer. Other movies leaving the service include the underrated horror sequel A Nightmare on Elm Street 4, the steamy 1994 thriller Disclosure, and the classic suburban nightmare film Poltergeist. Check out the list below and try to watch some of these gems before they leave Max for good (or at least a long while).

HBO and Max spotlight a stellar true crime lineup this spring

Convicted murderer Robert Durst has been dead for over two years, but as HBO said in its promotional campaign for The Jinx: Part Two, "He's back." The six-episode continuation of The Jinx premiered earlier this month, and it's near the top of the list of the most popular shows on Max. Despite Durst's death behind bars in 2022, there's still a lot of interest in this case and in this show because The Jinx helped put Durst away when it premiered in 2015.

The Jinx is only one of the shows fueling the rise of true crime content on HBO and Max. The genre was already popular, but now Max is reporting that it's the top category out of all of the unscripted shows from HBO, Investigation Discovery, and more.

The best sci-fi movies on Max right now

There were only two notable sci-fi additions to Max in April: Terminator Salvation and Source Code. Both are very good movies, but it's been clear for months that Max is coasting on its sci-fi lineup. It's not enough to just have great films to watch, especially if they're on loan from other studios with an expiration date at some point in the future. Once films like Alien, Avatar, and all of the classic Star Trek films leave, Max's sci-fi library is going to look pretty weak.

For now, we're just going to have to live with the available selection for the best sci-fi movies on Max. But we also added Escape From L.A. just to give you more than two options that weren't on this list last month. If you want to see the rest of the films, just keep scrolling down.

Everything coming to Max (formerly HBO Max) in May 2024

April was a serious month for HBO and Max. The channel and streamer wrapped up season 2 of its excellent crime drama Tokyo Vice and premiered an unsettling political thriller, The Sympathizer, starring recent Oscar-winner Robert Downey Jr. In addition to those two shows, Max hosted the streaming debut of The Zone of Interest, one of the most unsettling and controversial Holocaust movies ever made.

So it's not a surprise that Max is going to lighten up a little. Sure, there's the odd devastating drama like The Iron Claw with Zac Efron, but there's also the debut of Emmy-winning comedy Hacks' newest season. For those YA fans out there, John Green's Turtles All the Way Down finally makes its way to small screens worldwide. There's something for everyone this month on HBO and Max, so read below to find out something that suits your interests.
