James Gunn gets the Suicide Squad cast together for a photo

They might not stick around very long, but the cast of director James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad has been officially confirmed — and it’s an impressive list, to put it mildly.

Gunn revealed the full cast of the upcoming DC film on Twitter. The project is reported to be a soft relaunch of the franchise after the underwhelming performance of the 2016 Suicide Squad film. It will “take the franchise in a new direction” instead of serving as a direct sequel.

Returning cast members from the 2016 movie include Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg. Among the newcomers are some high-profile actors that were previously rumored to be joining the project, including John Cena, Taika Waititi, and Idris Elba. There’s no indication of which characters the new additions to the cast will play.

A pair of actors with strong ties to the sci-fi community is also on the confirmed cast list, with Firefly actor Nathan Fillion and former Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi both named in the announcement.

A few weeks later, Gunn posted a photo of some of the new Suicide Squad cast members together, with Gunn himself among them.

From left to right, the photo features Flula Borg, Daniela Melchior, David Dastmalchian, Gunn, Jennifer Holland, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, and Mayling Ng.

In the initial cast announcement, Gunn captioned the image with a cryptic suggestion that — in keeping with the theme of the film, which follows a group of DC Comics supervillains forced to undertake dangerous missions for a government agency — the characters played by this large cast of actors might not stick around long: “Don’t get too attached.”

It’s worth noting that two names have been conspicuously absent from the casting reports so far: Jared Leto and Will Smith.

Leto portrayed a new version of Joker in the 2016 film, and his tattooed iteration of the infamous Batman foe received a mixed response from audiences. Smith was ostensibly the first film’s co-star (alongside Robbie), playing the deadly marksman Deadshot.

The Suicide Squad is scheduled to hit theaters August 6, 2021.

The next Superman and Lois Lane, David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan.

The search for the next Superman and Lois Lane is over. Via The Hollywood Reporter, Superman: Legacy writer and director James Gunn has selected David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan to step into the iconic roles. Corenswet and Brosnahan participated in a final round of auditions last weekend. Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney were also among the finalists for Superman/Clark Kent, while Phoebe Dynevor and Emma Mackey were the runners-up for Lois.

Gunn didn't waste any time confirming the news on his Twitter account, while also praising his two new stars.

Amazon Freevee’s Jury Duty gets a cast commentary in June
People sit in a jury box in Jury Duty.

In the streaming era, original shows and movies don't tend to get DVD and Blu-ray-style extras. But there are some exceptions to the rule. Amazon has announced that the Freevee original comedy series, Jury Duty, will get a new cast commentary in June that will be included in all eight episodes.

Director Jake Szymanski will be joined by cast members James Marsden, Ronald Gladden, Mekki Leeper, Cassandra Blair, and Maria Russell as they share their thoughts on the series and what went on behind the scenes. But for our readers, we really want to hear from Gladden since he was the unexpected "lead" in a show that turned out to be about him.

Is James Gunn’s top 5 favorite comic book movies list accurate?
Miles swings into action in "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse."

James Gunn has been a busy man lately. Between making the final installment of his Guardians MCU trilogy, the financially successful Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and gearing up to make his first DC Studios project, Superman: Legacy, the popular director certainly has every right to not indulge in such unimportant pastimes such as eating or breathing. (I'm kidding here, but the guy is super-busy!)

Yet, Gunn found time away from selecting which actor would make the best Superman to divulge a revealing secret. In an interview with GQ, Gunn was asked what his 5 favorite comic book movies are and why. Below is a list of Gunn's choices, which, shockingly, does not include any MCU movie.
5. Deadpool (2016)
