A behind-the-scenes follow-up to the previously-released ten second teaser Bigger, Badder, Faster, the short video showcases never before seen footage of the series’ new villain Atom Smasher, played by WWE wrestler Adam “Edge” Copeland.
Seen manhandling The Flash in a warehouse in The Man Who Saved Central City — the title of the first episode of the new season — Atom Smasher is a metal-masked evildoer that can grow himself from normal size to goliath proportions in short order. The anti-hero can then use his massive muscles to inflict a lot of pain on The Flash/Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), provided he can catch him.
The speedy superhero had a successful first season on the small screen, rounding up villains all around Central City before a dramatic finale conclusion. The new season appears to start as a celebration of the effectiveness of the Flash’s previous efforts, before things go prototypically awry. After all, when has there been a parade in comic book land that hasn’t been interrupted by one villain or another?
Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell) also reprise their season one roles in the short teaser, aiming fancy super guns at the un-caped crusader. We also get a glimpse of Tom Cavanagh, who will continue his role as Dr. Harrison Wells — a character rumored to have a much different temperament in this season’s plot line.
The first episode of the new season premiers on October 6, and looks to be a well-crafted follow up to last fall’s shenanigans, even if the intro episode does employ the well-worn parade-to-catastrophe trope viewers are all too familiar with.
