Wait until Prime Day to buy an Amazon Echo or Fire TV

Plum Amazon Echo Dot on side table.

Early Prime Day deals have begun so now is the time to buy up some cool Amazon technology like an Amazon Echo or Fire TV, right? Well, not exactly. It’s a bit more complicated than that, and we’re here to explain why.

Prime Day itself isn’t until July 12 and July 13, but as is often the way, Amazon has kicked things off a little early with some early Prime Day deals. It’s all in a bid to get you in the shopping mood and to make sure that Amazon stays on your radar ahead of the main event.

In some cases, it’s definitely worth paying attention to. For instance, Amazon already has some great deals on cheap Fire TVs. However, not every deal is worth paying attention to. As an example, right now, there are some modest discounts on the Amazon Fire TV Stick range as well as the Fire TV Cube. However, while these discounts may be around 20% to 25% off the usual price, that’s not actually the lowest we’ve seen these products get.

Instead, we’ve seen items like the Fire TV Stick get even cheaper, such as during Black Friday where its price dropped to $20. While with these smaller items the added discount may only be a few bucks, those few bucks add up fast. Of course, such incremental discounts get even more substantial when you’re buying something like the Amazon Echo or the Amazon Echo Show, which costs more at all times than the cheaper Echo Dot.

So what should you do? Wait. While you may save a little with these tempting teaser deals on Amazon products, Prime Day is only a few weeks away. If you hold out, you can save even more. It’s unlikely you need a new Echo unit so urgently that you can’t wait, right?

We’re confident that when Prime Day comes around, all Amazon devices like anything Echo or Fire TV related will be cut in price even more than they are right now. Every cent counts, so it’s logical to hold off a bit longer.

The convenient thing here is that Amazon rarely runs out of stock on its own products. That means you won’t have to worry about a backorder and having to wait a long time to receive your purchase. Instead, by waiting until Prime Day, you’ll still get your item reasonably quickly while also getting the best price.

While we’d usually be telling you to buy now, this isn’t the time. Hold on. Prime Day is only a few weeks away. We’re counting on seeing some better deals on Amazon Echo, Fire TV, and other Amazon devices.

Amazon’s $20 Echo Dot deal is back, complete with free music
amazon offers 99 dot for auto renewal music unlimited subscription echo 3rd gen 0 and 1 month of 7 with 4

Technically speaking, Amazon's older Echo devices are just as good as the newer models, and they all feature the Alexa smart assistant built-in. Some of the best Amazon deals include offers on the Echo smart speakers, and there's even a dedicated guide for Amazon Echo deals currently available. This next offer is worth calling out separately, however, as it adds a little extra to sweeten the deal. You can grab the Amazon Echo Dot 3rd Gen smart speaker for just $20, which is an incredible price on its own, and saves you about $20 to boot. Currently, Amazon is offering up to 90 days of Amazon Music Unlimited free with your purchase -- make sure you're logged in to see the deal! As Music Unlimited is getting more expensive this year this is a great way to get in for a steal.

Why You Should Buy the Amazon Echo Dot
Our celebrity reviewer, Caleb Denison gave the smart speaker high marks in his Amazon Echo Dot 3rd Gen review, back in 2019. At the time, he praised it for its exceptional sound quality, intelligent onboard assistant thanks to Alexa, improved style and aesthetics, and better microphone sensitivity. Although the Echo ecosystem has come a long way since then, with the Echo Dot 5th Gen being one of the latest, the older models are still a solid entry point, and great for anyone that doesn't have a smart speaker in their home yet.

Amazon Fire 7 tablet is down to just $20 at Woot!
Amazon Fire 7 (2019) review

For shoppers who want to get a tablet on a very tight budget, here's what you've been looking for -- the refurbished 2019 Amazon Fire 7 tablet for a very affordable $20 from Amazon's Woot. That's $30 in savings on the device's original price of $50, but you'll need to push through with the purchase as soon as possible, as there's a limited amount of stock set aside, and a timer ticking on the discount, so it'll either sell out or the offer will expire, and neither of those are risks you want to take.

Why you should buy the refurbished 2019 Amazon Fire 7 tablet
The 2019 Amazon Fire 7 isn't the latest model of the tablet as the 2022 Amazon Fire 7 is out in the market, but the device is still a worthwhile purchase if you can manage your expectations. It's on the opposite end of the spectrum from the best tablets in terms of performance, but if you'll be using it for basic functions such as browsing the internet and checking social media, then the 2019 Amazon Fire 7's 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM will be enough. It also features a 7-inch IPS display, 2MP cameras at the front and back, and internal storage of 16GB that may be expanded by up to 512GB through a microSD card. You can also activate the tablet for hands-free Alexa, so you can access Amazon's digital assistant through voice commands.
