How to change your Steam username

Unless you've got an absolute premium username or have too many linked accounts to name, there's no reason to stick with the same username forever. Unlike some services that offer limited username changes or charge to change your tag, Steam allows users to adjust their usernames at any time.

You don't have to keep that awful username you picked on some random Tuesday before hopping into a game. Here's how you can make a change.

How to change your Steam username on the mobile app

You can also change your Steam ID using the official Steam mobile app. The process is nearly identical to the desktop app.

Step 1: Open up the Steam app and tap your profile picture in the upper right.

Step 2: Tap View Profile below your current username in the banner at the top.

Step 3: On your profile page, tap Edit Profile.

Step 4: On the next page, scroll down until you see Profile name. Delete the existing name and replace it with your new username. Don't forget to scroll down to the bottom of this page and select Save when you're finished.

Steam account name vs SteamID

While you can swap out the username above and change how other players on the platform see you online, there are other identifiers on Steam that cannot be changed.

When you made an account, you were assigned a SteamID — a unique 17-digit identifying number for a specific Steam account. You also pick an account name that is used to log in to Steam. These names cannot be changed, even by Steam staff.

Square Enix just set a new bar for video game demos with its latest RPG
Key art for SaGa: Emerald Beyond.

The video game demo is starting to come back into fashion.

Companies like Sony and Nintendo are offering demos for some of their biggest games of the year, like Stellar Blade and Princess Peach Showtime!, respectively. Not all demos are made equally, though. It can be difficult to get the feel of an entire game across in a demo featuring a small part of the experience; the brevity of Nintendo's recent demos has been especially frustrating. That's why Square Enix's approach to releasing a demo for SaGa: Emerald Beyond sticks out to me so much.

How to play the Frostpunk 2 beta
A city in Frostpunk 2.

We're all awaiting the full release of Frostpunk 2 to give us some chills during the heat of the summer, but you don't have to wait until July to go back to the Frostlands. Developer 11 Bit Studios is hosting a beta period where players can experience some of the game much earlier. This isn't a regular open beta where anyone is free to download it and play with no restrictions. There is one big catch to gaining access, and even then, it is only available for a very limited time. Here's what you need to know about the Frostpunk 2 beta and how to join it.
When is the Frostpunk 2 beta?
The Frostpunk 2 beta will run from 1 p.m. ET on April 15 through April 22. That will give you seven days with the game, but you'll only be able to access a modified version of the sandbox mode called Utopia Builder Preview. No story missions or content will be available.
How to access the Frostpunk 2 beta
There's only one way to get yourself a slot in the Frostpunk 2 beta, and that is to pre-order the Deluxe Edition. This normally costs $75, but is currently on sale on Steam for $67. The Deluxe Edition also includes access to three future DLC packs, 72-hour early access to the story mode, an exclusive item, a digital novella, and a digital artbook and soundtrack.
