After years of wishing, Persona games are coming to Nintendo Switch

In today’s June Nintendo Direct Mini, Atlus revealed that Persona 5 Royal, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 3 Portable are coming to Nintendo Switch.

Persona 5 Royal will be the first one to be released on October 21. Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable will arrive later. Earlier this month during the Xbox & Bethesda showcase, Atlus previously revealed that the three games would be released on Xbox and appear on Xbox Game Pass as well.

Shortly after, Atlus also confirmed a PC release for Persona 5 Royal and Persona 3 Portable via Steam. Persona 4 Golden has already been out on PC since 2020.

The mainline Persona games were primarily on PlayStation platforms, with the occasional spin-offs also released on other platforms such as PC and Nintendo Switch. Persona 5 Strikers and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax are recent examples. However, now the Persona series can be experienced by new players as a result of expanding its platform reach.

Persona 3 Portable was first released on the PlayStation Portable in 2011 here in the west. Persona 4 Golden is an enhanced port of the 2008 PS2 game for the PlayStation Vita; it was released in 2012.

Persona 5 was first launched in September 2016 in Japan and in April 2017 in the west for both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Persona 5 Royal is an enhanced version of the game for PlayStation 4. Earlier this month, it was also announced to receive a native PlayStation 5 port.

So far, it’s unknown whether Persona 5 Royal or Persona 3 Portable will be verified for Steam Deck. However, Persona 4 Golden is, so there’s a good chance that it will be for the other two games.

One of the best sci-fi games ever made is coming to Nintendo Switch next month

During the November 2023 Indie World Showcase, it was revealed that many intriguing indie titles are coming to the Nintendo Switch over the next year. One of the show's biggest announcements was that Outer Wilds -- a critically acclaimed sci-fi game about exploring a solar system throughout repeating time loops -- is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch next month.

A Nintendo Switch port for Outer Wilds was first teased in 2021 and intended to be released during the summer of that year, but it did not make that release window. We did not hear much else about the port until now outside of a mention during one of publisher Annapurna Interactive's own showcases. An Indie World Showcase segment dedicated to the game showed some of its physics-based spacefaring gameplay in action on the Switch, and it seemed to look nice and run at a solid frame rate. Called Outer Wilds: Archaeologist Edition, this version of the game comes with the Echoes of the Eye DLC and will launch digitally on December 7. It will get a physical Switch release sometime next year.

When does Hogwarts Legacy come out on Nintendo Switch?

Hogwarts Legacy is the latest and greatest adventure in the magical Harry Potter universe. Set in the 1800s, the story focuses on a generic fifth-year student who’s tasked with taking down a brewing Goblin rebellion in-between their school duties. For Potterheads of all ages, a game that allows them to traverse the halls of Hogwarts, learn their favorite spells from the books and films, and fight enemies like dark wizards, trolls, and dragons is an absolute dream.

The game launched on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC in February. While reviews were mixed across the board, longtime fans jumped into the wizarding world in droves — over 15 million copies of the game have been sold to date. Unfortunately, players on the top-tier consoles were the only ones who had access to the game for a while. Instead of launching on all platforms simultaneously, Hogwarts Legacy's release has been staggered.

The best games on Nintendo Switch Online

Each major gaming platform has its own subscription service, giving players added bonuses such as access to certain games and other perks for a monthly fee. Xbox has Game Pass, PlayStation has PlayStation Plus, and Nintendo Switch offers the Nintendo Switch Online program.

While Nintendo's service isn't on the same level as the other two across PlayStation and Xbox, it does give subscribers access to some of the best retro games of all time -- and even more if you have the Expansion Pack upgrade, which includes N64, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy Advance games, along with DLC packs for certain Switch titles. Included with the basic version of the Nintendo Switch Online subscription is the ability to play online, plus access to NES and SNES games.
