Samsung gearing up to debut Galaxy S4 Zoom and Active

samsung-galaxy-s4-zoomCheck out our reviews of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active and the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom smartphones.

Samsung seems to be in overdrive lately, cranking out device after device. The Galaxy S4 just hit the market in the last few weeks, the Galaxy Note 3 is in the works, the Galaxy S4 Mini was just announced, and now it looks like we may be seeing two more devices – the Galaxy S4 Zoom and Active – officially debuted by the South Korea-based company.

We’ve reported rumors about both devices already, but, according to BGR, Samsung will be announcing the two at a press conference slated to take place on June 20. If the company is trying to guarantee a spot on everyone’s radar, it’s certainly doing a good job of it. We can hardly finish reporting one rumor or release before another one falls on our desk.

While the two new models will be based largely on the flagship Galaxy S4, there are some defining features.

Galaxy S4 Zoom: The Zoom is targeted at those who take mobile photography seriously. It comes with a 16-megapixel rear camera, complete with a 10x optical zoom. In addition, it is expected to sport a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display, be powered by a 1.6GHz dual-core processor, and have 8GB storage with a microSD slot for extra memory storage.

Galaxy S4 Active: The Active is intended for those who are always on-the-go, in search of rugged adventure. This model is said to be essentially the same as the standard S4, but a bit more rugged, dust- and waterproof. It should have a 5-inch full HD display, quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor, 16GB storage with microSD slot to expand, and an 8-megapixel rear camera.

So it’s a lot of exciting news on the Samsung front, and we’re hoping next month’s announcement pulls through.

While Samsung releases a slew of phones every year, its flagship is the Galaxy S-series. In January 2024, we got the Galaxy S24 lineup, which is only several months old at this point. But we don’t expect Samsung to stop with that -- next year should give us an even better Galaxy S25 family of devices.

Why you should buy the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is one of the most powerful phones out there right now. It comes with Galaxy AI features like circle to search, a live translation feature, and both chat and photo assistance. The AMOLED display is 6.8 inches diagonally, has a 1440p resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, and is protected by Gorilla Armor. Its cameras are incredibly powerful, with a rear-facing camera that shoots in 200 megapixels and an ability to shoot video at 120 FPS and 8K resolution. Plus, the whole things feels absolutely great to use, with our Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra review highlighting the phone's high performance and durable design. It is subtle, but should be noted, that our reviewer (after returning the review copy) has stated he will continue using his personally purchased Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Is Samsung going to kill the Galaxy S25 Plus?
A Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus laying on concrete.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 series is still at least half a year away, with the phones anticipated to launch sometime early next year, likely sometime between January and February based on precedent. However, a recent exclusive from Android Headlines suggests there may be a radical change in the pipeline for the S25 series — it may not come with a Galaxy S25 Plus model, leaving just a regular S25 and S25 Ultra as part of the lineup.

The rumor is based on Android Headline’s examinations of the IMEI database. The Galaxy S25 is available with model number SMS931B/DS, the S25 Ultra appears as SM-S938B, SM-S938U, SM-S938N, and SM-S9380. For reference, the B in the IMEI number stands for the Global model, the U for the USA, and the N for South Korea.
