Arrinera Hussarya: Poland’s first supercar is no joke

Aiming to etch itself in history as Poland’s first supercar, Arrinera Automotive has unveiled the final design and name of its upcoming sports car, the Arrinera Hussarya. And from the looks of it, this Polish beauty is no joke.

Named after the 17th century Polish Hussar cavalry, Arrinera says the Hussarya was engineered to draw on the attributes of beauty, strength, and maneuverability these feared forces were said to embody. The renders you see here represent the car’s final form, the fruits of a 14-month redesign process of the previous Arrinera’s supercar that began life back in 2008.

Of course, there has been quite a lot of controversy surrounding Arrinera’s first automotive outing. When we wrote about the car last year, we, and many others, couldn’t help but overlook a more than striking resemblance to a certain Italian automaker’s design. That suspicion wasn’t helped when a Polish online TV and radio program labeled the Arrinera as nothing more than a poor Lamborghini El Toro replica, a claim Arrinera categorically denied. Nevertheless, our gut tells us that the Hussarya’s revamp may have a little to do with some of that backlash.

Along with a new name, a number of touches have been made in effort to emphasis style, comfort, and utility. The cockpit of the vehicle has been completely redesigned, the vehicle has been given a slightly higher ground clearance, and the scissor doors have been ditched in favor of more conventional ones. From the renders, we can see even stronger accents on the vehicles rear arches, while an array of strong character lines intersect and dissect throughout its rakish frame. The Polish firm has also implemented two spoilers at the vehicle’s rear that serve as an additional air brake at speeds beyond 93 mph.

Base dimensions remain the same, however, with Arrinera citing the refresh in design as a means to give the impression of the vehicle being lighter. As it stands, curb weight for Arrinera Hussarya comes in at just under 3,000 pounds.

Arrinera has only supplied preliminary technical specs, but from what we gather, the Hussarya will sport a fire-breathing V8 engine capable of producing 650 horsepower, 820 lb-ft of torque with a maximum speed of 211 mph, and 0-62 mph sprint of 3.2 seconds.

Currently, the Arrinera Hussarya is scheduled to undergo road and performance tests at the Applus IDIADA automotive research center in Spain. While no definitive date or price point has been given, Arrinera says it will produce both right and left side versions of the car, and expects the Hussarya to be ready for production no earlier than the end of 2013.
