Winter clothing sales, by and large, was a dud across much of the country this year, leaving retailers with a surplus of winter gear. This is good news for you: in many cases, there’s a much better selection of winter outwear and gear than most years, including at outdoor retailer REI.
While supplies last, you can conquer the cold with the best heated clothing and outdoor apparel for 2020. The retailer is holding its annual winter clearance sale, offering up to 50% off regular prices on a variety of items, including clothing, jackets, and footwear, including some great deals on big name brands including Prana, Patagonia, and Mountain Hardwear.
We’ve even found a few deals on some tech gadgets which we’ll share with you below. Here are some of the best deals we’ve seen — and again, act fast: many of these deals are limited to present stock, so when they’re gone, they’re gone.
Patagonia Down Sweater Hoodie Pullover
REI is clearing out its stock of previous season Patagonia, and the Down Sweater Hoodie Pullover caught our eye as a great deal. You can either wear this insulated pullover on its own or layered under other outerwear for added warmth. Lightweight and windproof, the Down Sweater Hoodie is filled with 800-fill-power goose down that is sourced from a humane farm that ensures that the birds are not force-fed or live-plucked. Add to this a recycled polyester ripstop shell, and this coat is one of the most environmentally conscious coats on our list, something we’ve come to expect from Patagonia. A jacket version of the Down Sweater is also available for women at up to 50% off regular retail prices in select colors.
Prana Trembly Jacket
There’s just something timeless about Prana’s Trembly jacket that caught our eye. While it isn’t as insulated as other jackets, it is equally at home in the workplace as the great outdoors. This jacket features an inside zip pocket with a media port so you can stash your smartphone inside, and the garment’s organically grown cotton canvas shell is rugged enough to withstand the elements. At its current price, we’d argue its a steal.
Mountain Hardwear Ghost Shadow Insulated Hoodie
Mountain Hardwear’s Ghost Shadow Insulated Hoodie is lightweight — weighing just 12 ounces — but as warm as many heavier jackets thanks to its high-performance insulation. The lightweight coat also allows the Ghost Shadow to be form-fitting and flattering to a woman’s figure, something many owners note is one of their favorite features of this particular jacket. The entire jacket can be folded into one of its pockets for easy storage, and with a fit that is neither too loose nor too tight, you’ll be able to layer underneath without restricting movement.
REI Co-op Signal 20 Pack
If you’re planning a hike or long day of sightseeing when the weather gets warmer, we’ve spotted an outstanding closeout deal on the REI Co-op Signal 20 Pack, which we think is worth your consideration. For under $40, you’re getting a pack with an impressive 20 liters of storage space, with plenty of pockets and a padded laptop pocket to keep it safe and sound (and easy to get to for TSA searches). REI says the Signal 20 Pack meets carry-on restrictions for most airlines, making it the perfect carry-on bag, too.
Keen Anchorage III Waterproof Boot
If you’re looking for a solid pair of boots, the Keen brand is an excellent place to start. Its Anchorage III Waterproof Boots are warm (an impressive 200g of insulation) and as the name suggests, waterproof too. Nubuck leather uppers are lined with waterproof and breathable KEEN.Dry membranes and thermal heat-shield footbeds capture warmth. Even better yet, Cleansport NXT™ technology helps prevent odor in your boots, making this an all-around great deal.
Garmin Fenix 5S GPS Watch
The Garmin Fenix 5 is one of the company’s top smartwatches. The 5S is its smaller sibling with a 42mm casing versus the 47mm of the standard Fenix 5. Like most Garmin watches, you’ll be able to add a dash of your personality as you switch out the straps and by downloading apps, widgets, or watch faces from the Connect IQ store, and its fitness tracking capabilities are second to none. While not officially part of REI’s Winter Clearance sale, the 20% savings is pretty substantial, and it’s a good buy at $400.
This is only a small fraction of what’s on sale at REI right now. We recommend you take some time to surf around REI’s website to see what all they have available. There’s not only deals on clothing and electronics but camping equipment, various snowsports equipment, and more — all at up to 50% off and some cases more.
