iOS 13.6 is now out. Here are the newest features

Apple released iOS 13.6 on Wednesday with a slew of new features.

There are updates to Apple News, fresh support for Car Key, which allows you to use your iPhone to unlock your vehicle, and a coronavirus symptom logger in the Health app.

Apple News updates include narrated audio stories and audio briefings of the day’s latest news. You can even listen to Apple News audio stories while driving via Apple CarPlay.

The highly anticipated Car Key feature was first announced at the Worldwide Developer’s Conference last month and is meant to replace your bulky keys with your smartphone. Car Key allows you to lock, unlock, and start your car with your iPhone — you can even create driver-specific profiles to give other drivers in your family access. The digital key is available in the Wallet, but it only works on the 2021 BMW 5 Series for now.

There’s also a new symptoms category in the Health app that specifically logs coronavirus symptoms like fever, chills, or coughing and shares them with third-party contact tracing apps.

To update your iPhone to the latest iOS software, go to Settings > General > Software Update.

Apple will continue to release minor iOS updates leading up to the debut of iOS 14, which is scheduled to release in mid-September. Right now, it’s available for developers and public beta testers.

The iOS 14 update will include a new way to use widgets, a picture-in-picture functionality, a new Translate app that can translate 11 different languages, redesigned group chats, and App Clips that allow users to access apps without having to download the full version.

Apple has started taking pre-orders for its latest smartphone, the iPhone 16e, in the U.S. and elsewhere. The rather divisive budget-focused smartphone from Apple is a major evolution over the now-defunct iPhone SE and sits underneath the mainline iPhones with a bunch of similarities and some serious feature-trimmings, as well.

It starts at $599 in the U.S. for the 128GB storage variant, while the 256GB and 512GB variants will have you parting ways with $699 and $899, respectively.

It’s the world’s thinnest foldable, and Oppo has addressed many of the constructive criticisms it faced with the Find N3. The result is a phone that shows that folding phones no longer need to compromise, at least on paper.

The Oppo Find N5 also addresses many of the concerns about the folding phone category as a whole. When using the Galaxy Z Fold 6 or Pixel 9 Pro Fold in public, I’ll often get asked questions like is it durable enough? Can you see the crease? What’s the battery life? What about the cameras?

The latest iOS update might have reactivated Apple Intelligence features

Some iPhone users have reported that yesterday's update to iOS 18.3.1 reactivated once-disabled Apple Intelligence features on specific devices. Certain features, like Notification Summaries, had been shut off over concerns about accuracy. Now users are reporting that these features have been re-enabled following the update.

Devices that displayed a welcome screen after updating seem to have a higher chance of these features being re-activated. Reddit user u/Hanthunius reported the bug on their iPhone 15 Pro Max, while others saw the features make a comeback on Mac devices. MacRumors tested this theory, and while Apple Intelligence remained disabled on iPadOS and iOS in their tests, the Mac Mini was a different story.
