What’s new on HBO and Max in May 2024

Max

HBO and Max tend to start the month strong with a long list of movies from the past four decades. However, May’s movie lineup on Max is looking pretty slim. It is nice to have three original Mad Max movies available to stream just in time for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga to hit theaters later this month. Beyond that, the only movies worth getting excited for in May are the Max original romantic drama Turtles All the Way Down and A24’s The Iron Claw, which is based on the true story of the Von Erichs, a family of professional wrestlers.

Max also has the season 3 premiere of Hacks and a new documentary about MoviePass, as well as a lot of reality shows from the Discovery side of Warner Bros. Discovery. Although the programming on PBS in May could look slight compared to April, remember that new episodes of Guilt and A Brief History of the Future will also premiere this month. The only drama series debuting in May is Maryland, a new British series that is making its American premiere on PBS. And if that's not enough drama for you, Great Performances will have feature new productions of Hamlet and Purlie Victorious.

Throughout the month, PBS will air multiple news, nature, and investigative reports as specials and standalone episodes. Near the end of May, music lovers can look forward to the National Memorial Day Concert 2024 and a tribute to the legendary Rodgers and Hammerstein.

May is one of the longest months of the year, and Hulu subscribers may need all 31 days to catch some of their favorite movies before they leave at the end of the month. The brilliant satire Thank You For Smoking, the intense noir thriller L.A. Confidential, The Wrestler, Taken, Salt, Life of Pi, Scarface, and more are all on their way out of the door. Some of them have gone through this cycle before and come back to Hulu. But there's no guarantee that you'll see them again on this streaming service.

Evil is coming to Paramount+ in May. To be clear, we're talking about Evil season 4, the final run of episodes for the supernatural drama series that began on CBS. And it's not the only highlight this month. The Chi season 6 will premiere on May 10, and Lolla: The Story of Lollapalooza will follow on May 21. Younger viewers and kids in your family may also be happy to hear that PAW Patrol season 9 will be streaming as of May 1.

Paramount+ also has a strong lineup of movies in May, including Oscar-winner No Country for Old Men, Ghost, Stand By Me, Annihilation, and more.
