Your Amazon Fire TV device offers a wide range of features such as streaming content, playing games, controlling your smart devices, browsing the web, and much more. However, some of the content available on the platform may not be appropriate for children, and some of it requires downloading, purchasing, or renting. This is where the Amazon Fire TV parental controls come into play. These controls mainly focus on restricting access to apps and purchases, but also for keeping young eyes safe from content you don't want them to see.

Here’s how to set up parental controls on your Amazon Fire TV to better protect your family — and wallet.

Set parental controls on your Amazon Fire TV

When parental controls are activated, a prompt for a PIN will appear before you attempt to make purchases of videos, apps, and games. The PIN is also required to play videos with certain age ratings.

Step 1: To set your PIN, on your Fire TV home screen, choose the Settings menu. It's the gear icon.

Step 3: Choose Parental Controls, then choose Parental Controls again on the next page. (The setting should be in the OFF position).

Step 4: Next, add a five-digit PIN for your Fire TV to require it for certain actions.

Step 5: Enter the PIN again to confirm the setting. Then choose OK.

Step 6: Once you have set up a PIN, you can configure the parental control settings according to your preferences. For instance, you can require the use of your PIN for any purchases made via Fire TV, including in-app purchases, games, and apps. Moreover, you can also require the use of a PIN to launch any of the installed apps. Be sure to memorize this PIN and restrict its access.

How to change your parental controls PIN

If you wish to change the PIN, you can do so at any time.

Step 1: Once again, navigate to Settings on the Fire TV home page, then choose Account & Profile Settings.

Step 2: Choose Parental Controls, then select Change PIN.

Step 3: Enter your existing PIN.

Step 4: Add your new PIN, then repeat this step to confirm.

The “surprisingly immersive” Amazon Fire soundbar is only $100 today
Amazon Fire TV Soundbar in front of TV.

Buying from soundbar deals is the easiest way to upgrade your home theater setup's audio output for cheap, and while there are soundbar options out there that cost more than $1,000, there are affordable options that will still get the job done. One of them is the Amazon Fire TV Soundbar, which is already pretty cheap at its original price of $120, but it's currently even cheaper at a flat $100 from Amazon following a $20 discount. This is a limited-time offer though, and it may be gone as soon as tomorrow, so you'll have to complete your purchase of it immediately if you're interested.

Why you should buy the Amazon Fire TV Soundbar
The Amazon Fire TV Soundbar won't match the performance of the best soundbars, but when our audio expert checked it out last year, he described it as a surprisingly immersive soundbar despite its affordable price. It's a simple 2.0-channel soundbar, which means it just has the standard left and right channel -- no subwoofer. You can read more about fancier setups in our guide on how to buy a soundbar. It's very easy to set up though: just plug the included HDMI cable into your TV's HDMI ARC/eARC port and you're all set.

The Google TV Streamer added one feature that all such devices need
The rear of the Google TV Streamer device.

When a company drops a handful of press images alongside the announcement of a new product, we rarely get to see the back of the thing. And I get it — there's nothing particularly photogenic about a bunch of ports and cords. And that's mostly true of the new Google TV Streamer, which looks more like a router than it does a successor to the venerable Chromecast dongle.

But we did get the briefest glimpse of the rear of the device in Google's promo video. In it, you see the USB-C power cable and a hint of the Ethernet port. And those are great.
