How to order the Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch SE

The Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch SE are now available from numerous retail outlets around the globe. Whichever model suits your fancy, you can go ahead and order it now directly from Apple’s website or at places like Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart, Adorama, B&H, and many more retail outlets.

The Apple Watch Series 6 is a direct upgrade to the Series 5, packing some distinctive new high-level features but maintaining the same form factor and price tag. The 40mm GPS model — the cheapest one in the product line — starts at $399, while the 44mm model starts at $429 for its lowest price. An extra $100 for either buys you the cellular model.

Apple is the best place to buy your new Apple Watch because it offers all the different models and variations. Here’s what’s currently available.

Apple Watch Series 6

The Series 6 has new color and finish options, a more powerful dual-core S6 processor, and an improved, always-on Retina display that’s twice as bright as the previous model. Improved specs make this watch 20% faster than its predecessor, and it can now detect blood oxygen levels, a sought-after new feature that recent watch models are starting to add. It also has sleep-tracking capabilities. Then, there’s the new Apple Solo Loop, a comfortable, seamless band, which comes in nine sizes and eliminates irritating closures and buckles.

The Apple Watch SE is a totally new line of devices designed for those who do not need high-end features or the price tag that goes along with them. Choosing specifications

Andy Boxall/Digital Trends

When choosing your Apple Watch, you will have to make all the specification decisions before completing your purchase, so it’s important to know what you want ahead of time — starting, of course, with which model you want — the full-featured Apple Watch 6 or the more consumer-oriented Apple Watch SE. There are few visual differences between the models — they look identical on the wrist — and mostly they have similar capabilities, except for a few key features, that account for their price differences.

Fit and finish: Whereas the Apple Watch 6 comes in aluminum, steel, and titanium with various colors and finishes, such as silver, gray, gold, blue, and red (aluminum); silver, graphite, and gold (stainless steel); and titanium and black (titanium), the SE has less variety with only silver, gray, and gold aluminum exteriors.

Always on: The Apple Watch 6 has an always-on face, that looks like a traditional wristwatch when your arm is by your side, with the face visible. With the SE model, you must lift your arm to view the face, which then automatically switches on, and then off, when you drop your arm.

Blood Oxygen Sensor: This extremely advanced piece of hardware is exclusive to the Apple Watch 6, facilitated by the device’s S6 chip. This oximeter can collect critical data about your breathing and blood circulation within seconds to help determine your respiratory and cardiac condition.

Network specs: You may want to use your Apple Watch as a standalone link to the world or continue to rely on your iPhone. For those who want to include cellular service with their watch, be sure to specify the correct model, as prices for cellular-capable watches are slightly higher than GPS-only models.

Looking for deals

If you are ordering an Apple Watch, but also really hoping for some sort of deal, there are a few steps to consider before you click the Buy button.

Trading in your old Apple Watch: With Apple, you can trade in any eligible device for credit toward your next purchase, or get an Apple Gift Card. All previous Apple Watch models are currently eligible for trade-in. Trading in an Apple Watch 5 will fetch you up to $190, while an Apple Watch 4 is worth up to $145. Series 1 to 3 can bring you between $30 and $85 to put toward a newer model.

Special offers from carriers: When you buy your watch from your carrier, you may also find some special offers. For example, if you buy your Apple Watch from AT&T, you can get $200 off a second watch. Verizon is offering $100+ off with select watch trade-ins and $100 off with an iPhone online purchase for a device in good condition and eligible plan. Alternately, Verizon is offering $250 off a second watch if you buy online. T-Mobile is offering an Apple Watch SE 40mm for $199 when you activate a new line.

Online store deals: Major online retailers like Target or Walmart, offer Apple device deals for the holidays, which generally involve gift cards.

Could an all-glass Apple Watch design be in its future?
A fictional all-glass Apple Watch.

Over the years, Apple has employed various materials for its Apple Watch, including aluminum, ceramic, stainless steel, and titanium. While glass has sometimes been used for the display, it has never been used for the entire watch.

Is an all-glass Apple Watch in the future? Probably not, but some signs suggest Cupertino is at least contemplating this possibility.

Apple Watch SE 3’s future appears uncertain with a looming price hike
Apple Watch SE with Nomad Aluminum Band

Apple last updated its affordable “SE” series smartwatch back in 2022. Priced at $250, the smartwatch offered a decent mix of wellness capabilities, clean design, and long battery life. But in time that has elapsed since, rivals like Samsung, OnePlus, and Mobvoi have offered fantastic value-centric models of their own.
Apple, on the other hand, hasn’t said a word on the next Watch SE trim. It seems the third-generation Apple Watch SE might take a while to arrive, and the delay may not be strategic. As per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the affordable model might be in “serious jeopardy” due to hardware-related snags.
“The design team doesn’t like the look, and the operations team is finding it difficult to make the casing materially cheaper than the current aluminum chassis,” says the report. The outlet recently reported that Apple was experimenting with other materials in order to bring the manufacturing costs down.
