‘Battlefield V’ uses World War II to make a thoroughly modern video game

‘Battlefield V’ returns to World War II, but that doesn’t mean it’s going back to its roots. The franchise’s latest game will double-down on massive battles while adding a staggering amount of character customization. It even offers new building options that seem a nod to ‘Fortnite,’ though with a definite Battlefield flavor.

‘Battlefield V’ has no expansion packs, and won’t be pay-to-win

Paid expansion packs and the "premium pass" have been staples of the Battlefield series for years, but Electronic Arts and Dice are doing away with them in the upcoming shooter Battlefield V. Unlike in Star Wars: Battlefront II in its original form, however, your progression will still be completely tied to your gameplay.

On May 23, Electronic Arts and Dice will reveal their latest shooter, Battlefield V, with the help of comedian and The Daily Show host Trevor Noah. The game is rumored to take place in World War II, and it will see the return of the massive "Operations" multiplayer mode and "War Stories" campaign.
