Apple has announced that Google CEO Eric Schmidt is resigning his position on Apple’s Board of Directors, owing to potential conflicts of interest as Google and Apple begin to compete in a wider number of businesses. Although Apple is not horning in on Google’s Internet search business, Google and Apple already butt heads on mobile phones (with the iPhone and Google Android), and Google’s recently announced Chrome OS will have the company’s competing on operating systems and (potentially) even computing hardware.

Google Earth For The iPhone
If you own an iPhone or an iPod Touch, now you can get Google Earth on your set as a free application from the iPhone App Store.
Google announced the service on Sunday, making it a companion for Google Maps for Mobile, which is already available for the iPhone.
Peter Birch, product manager for Google Earth, wrote in a blog posting that users simply have to "swipe [their] finger across the screen and… fly to the other side of the globe." The viewing angle can be adjusted by tilting the phone, and a zoom can be achieved by pinching the fingers together on the screen, according to ZDNet. The is also a “My Location” feature.
Google Maps Get UK Traffic Data
In a first, the UK Highways Agency is allowing Google Maps access to its data on traffic speeds. That means it will be able to display what’s shown on motorway signs, Kablenet reports, as well as predicted speeds between two points on the motorway.
It will be the same data that appears on the Highway Agency’s own site. The Highways Agency’s National Traffic Control Center will supply the data in the European standard Datex II format.

T-Mobile has formally launched the T-Mobile G1, the first mobile phone available to consumers based on Google’s Android platform. Wii Goes to the Opera
A trial version of the Opera Web browser is now available for download for Nintendo’s Wii video game console. Assuming Wii owners have connected their systems’ to a home network or otherwise set them up for Internet access, the browser can be downloaded from the Wii Shop Channel on the Wii menu; from there, click Wii Ware (or Wii Software in the EU), then click Download the Internet Channel.
