How to add cross-platform friends in Back 4 Blood

The team from Turtle Rock made such a strong first impression with the first Left 4 Dead that Valve brought the team under their wing to make the sequel, plus some great DLC. These games were the gold standard for cooperative zombie shooters until, well, that same team left to make Back 4 Blood. Taking advantage of the generations of improvements that have been made since Left 4 Dead 2, this modern game is still built around the simple concept of getting some friends together and shooting your way through hundreds and hundreds of zombies across a series of missions.

One thing Back 4 Blood takes advantage of that wasn’t even considered possible when the Left 4 Dead games were coming out was cross-platform support. Now it is easier than ever to play with friends regardless of whether they’re on Xbox, PlayStation, or PC. However, there isn’t a universal system for how cross-platform play works just yet, so actually joining up with your friends for the first time isn’t quite as straightforward as a simple button press. If you want to get the gang together for some zombie-slaying fun, here’s how to add cross-platform friends in Back 4 Blood.

Back 4 Blood is meant to be played with friends and is made to make it as easy as possible for you to join up with friends across all available platforms. That includes the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. If you have friends you want to make lobbies with, you will need to add them as friends first.

To add a friend on a different platform, the process is identical to adding a friend if they were on the same platform within Back 4 Blood. You may remember that when you first launched the game, you were given a username just for this game that looks like your tag on Xbox or PlayStation with a few numbers tied to the end of it. This is essentially your cross-platform ID. Once in the game, first go to Fort Hope and open the Social section of the menu. Here, select the Add Friends option to bring up a search bar. Then you just need to type in your friend’s Back 4 Blood ID and find them and add them to your friends list.

Once they, or you if they end up adding your name, get a friend request, simply accept it and create a party to start playing with your squad of choice! Once they’re on your friends list, the process will be that easy going forward.

How to turn cross-platform play on or off

You can also turn cross-platform play on or off in general, allowing matchmaking to occur across all platforms as well. The game will give you this option right away when you first launch it, but if you want to access it again, the setting is a little buried. Again from the menu in Fort Hope, when selecting a mission, open up the Settings menu and hit Preferences. Here there is a toggle for crossplay, which is automatically set to enabled. If you would rather not play against PC players in PvP for example, then this is how you’d restrict matches you find to only be on your console.

Is Path of Exile 2 cross-platform?
A barbarian character in Path of Exile 2.

After Diablo 3 fumbled the bag, we needed a new ARPG to fill the void Diablo 2 left in our souls. Path of Exile answered that call and then some. It didn't just give fans what Blizzard failed to deliver but kept on supporting, and adding to the game for close to a decade kept it popular even after Diablo 4 came out. Path of Exile 2 wasn't even supposed to be a sequel at first, but when the scope became so large that it couldn't fit as an expansion, it was spun off into a full release.

Path of Exile 2 hasn't forgotten what made the first game so much fun, and a large part of that was adventuring and fighting with friends online. The new addition of couch co-op is awesome, but what about players who need to team up online? The first game wasn't a cross-platform game initially, but the sequel hit consoles and PC at once, so you need to be up to date on whether it has cross-platform support.
Does Path of Exile 2 have cross-platform support?
Fear not, Exiles, because Path of Exile 2 has complete crossplay support. No matter if you are on PlayStation with a friend on Xbox and another on PC, or any other combination, you will all be able to dive into the demented world of Path of Exile 2 together to grind levels and loot to your heart's desire just like in Destiny 2 or Genshin Impact. It goes without saying, but obviously you can only play local co-op on the same platform since it requires both players to be on the same system.

Is Sea of Thieves cross-platform?
Enemies in Sea of Thieves

Sea of Thieves is a game that really only works with a group of friends. Rare's live-service pirate simulator is one of the best co-op games available today, allowing you to put together a swashbuckling crew to take to the high seas, raid rival ships, and hunt for treasure. Now that it is available on every system, one would hope it would also be a cross-platform game, but is that the case? Here's everything you need to know about Sea of Thieves' cross-platform support.
Is Sea of Thieves cross-platform?

Yes, Sea of Thieves supports cross-platform play across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 5 just like. That includes both the Windows 10 and Steam versions on PC, as well as Xbox One and Xbox Series X versions. Is Baldur’s Gate 3 cross-platform?
A Baldur's Gate 3 character lights the way.

The biggest CRPG of 2023, if not ever, promises a huge adventure that you are encouraged to play cooperatively with up to four friends. While online play is expected in the modern era, Baldur's Gate 3 surprisingly also supports split-screen co-op on every PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X as well, meaning you can run an entire campaign with a friend side-by-side. As great as all that is, the vast majority of people will likely want to play with a friend in the comfort of their own homes, which might mean a PC and console player will want to team up. Is that possible in Baldur's Gate 3? Here's a quick rundown of whether this is a cross-platform game.
Is Baldur's Gate 3 cross-platform?
In short, no, Baldur's Gate 3 will not allow for cross-platform play just like Elden Ring or Palworld. If you are playing on PC, then anyone you want to play online with will also need to be on PC, and the same is true for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. While this is true for now, it is possible that Larian Studios may add cross-platform play in a future update, but for now, it is safer to assume it won't come and make your purchasing decision accordingly.

The only small silver lining here is that Baldur's Gate 3 does have cross-platform progression. This means that if you purchase the game on one platform, you can carry your save to any other. While not ideal, it is at least an easier way to move between platforms to play with a friend if that's your only option.
