How to use the new Disney Plus GroupWatch mode

You can now watch Disney+ shows like The Mandalorian together with your friends virtually through the streaming service’s new GroupWatch feature.

The feature allows up to seven people to simultaneously watch the same show or movie on Disney+ by syncing screens. You can also share emoji reactions with your friends while watching.

You can connect with any of your friends who are monthly Disney+ subscribers. While you can’t see or message your friends with GroupWatch, Disney reportedly wants to add a chat feature in the future.

How to use GroupWatch on Disney+

Open up the app or website and choose which show or movie you want to watch.
Click on the icon with three people that’s located to the far right of the Play icon.
Send the invite link that pops up to your friends via text, email, or any other messaging option.
After everyone has the link and is added, any of the participants can click on Start Stream.
While watching, anyone can pause, fast forward, or rewind the stream.

Digital Trends reached out to Disney to find out if and when more features, such as a chat option, would be available to GroupWatch. We will update this story when we hear back.

Disney is the latest streaming service to have a shared stream feature available: Netflix has the third-party Netflix Party and Amazon has Amazon Prime Video Watch Party. These options have gained even more popularity during the pandemic since people are limited to physically hanging out with their friends or family, but can still enjoy a movie night together virtually.

On the final day of the NBA regular season, Eastern Conference rivals will square up as the Brooklyn Nets head south to take on the Philadelphia 76ers. The game starts at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT on Sunday, April 14. The 76ers will host the game inside the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

The Nets season ends today after the team failed to qualify for the playoffs. It will be a long offseason in Brooklyn, as the organization needs to decide if it wants to sell off players for draft assets and start a rebuild. Philadelphia, however, will get at least one more week of games in the postseason, whether in the Play-In Tournament or first round. With a healthy Joel Embiid, the 76ers are one of the more dangerous teams in the Eastern Conference.

What’s new on Paramount+ in April 2024

Back when Paramount+ was still known as CBS All Access, the streaming service debuted Star Trek: Discovery and kicked off a new era for the franchise which led to multiple Star Trek series running simultaneously. That's why it's significant that the fifth and final season of Star Trek: Discovery is coming to Paramount+ in April. The season premiere of Discovery will beam down on April 4, with new episodes following weekly until the series finale.

Sonic the Hedgehog fans will likely want to follow Idris Elba's Knuckles in his own series on Paramount+ on April 26. Meanwhile, younger viewers can enjoy the return of Dora the Explorer in a new series, Dora on April 12. Classic rock lovers are also in for a treat on April 14, as Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden will stream the iconic singer's 100th concert at the venue.

What’s new on Disney+ in April 2024

For all of the hype around Disney+ adding Hulu to its hub, the latter isn't the one that desperately needs the help. Hulu has a robust selection of new movies and shows every month. By comparison, Disney+'s lineup for April is particularly light. Combined, Hulu and Disney+ can compete with the other streamers, but Disney+ isn't offering much incentive for subscribers on its own.

The biggest addition to Disney+ in April is Wish, the animated musical that kicked off the 100th anniversary of Walt Disney Pictures late last year. But for younger viewers, they may be more interested in new episodes of Bluey and Spidey and his Amazing Friends. Older fans will still have fresh episodes of X-Men '97 and Star Wars: The Bad Batch throughout the month. And for nature lovers, there are new programs about tigers and octopuses. The National Geographic programming is always a better investment for Disney+ viewers than reality shows like Dance Moms, which is also on the schedule this month.
