One of the best Android smartwatches, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 is easily the ideal Wear OS smartwatch for many people, especially those with smaller wrists. It offers a supremely comfortable fit and size, which means it fits just as well in the office as it does the gym. iPhone owners won’t be able to use it but everyone else will have plenty of reasons to seriously consider it. With a rounded display that is sleek and lightweight, its 1.2-inch screen looks fantastic in any lighting situation. It has a digital bezel for working your way through menus with an aluminum body that feels great to your fingertips.

Underneath that stylish appearance are a bunch of great features. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 offers up body composition analysis so you can always see how best to crush your targets thanks to extensive body readings. Apple Watch SE (40mm, GPS) — $203, was $309

Andy Boxall/Digital Trends

The Apple Watch SE is the best Apple Watch for most people. While it lacks some of the key features of the Apple Watch Series 7, it still packs in plenty to love. At its simplest, that means it’s a breeze for you to take calls, reply to texts, or check important notifications from your wrist and without needing to pull out your phone. Ultimately though, it’s so much more than that. It’s whatever you want it to be right down to the fact you can swap out different straps and watch faces so it looks at home in the office or when you’re hiking up a long trail on a Saturday.

The Apple Watch SE is able to track all your daily activity from a quick walk around the local neighborhood to monitoring when you go swimming or go for a long run. It now tracks tai chi and Pilates workouts, too. At all times, you can see your trends developing, such as the steps you take, how much faster you’re walking, and even how often you stand up throughout the day. The Apple Watch SE goes even deeper than that as it looks at your heart rate. It’s able to tell you if your heart rate is unusually high or low, as well as detects irregular heart rhythm and shoots you a notification if there’s an issue.

It looks great, too, with a 1.78-inch Retina screen under Ion-X strengthened glass, and a digital crown to the side for moving through menus. There’s no Always-On screen feature but you won’t miss it too much. A reasonable battery life of two days is the reward for no always-on display and that’s certainly helpful. An easy to use watch, you’ll soon wonder what life was like before you had the Apple Watch SE encouraging you every step of the way.

Apple Watch Series 7 (41mm, GPS) — $384, was $399

Apple Watch Series 7 from the side on someone's wrist.
Andy Boxall/Digital Trends

The Apple Watch Series 7 is the ultimate smartwatch. Easily the best smartwatch out right now, it looks gorgeous, it’s super speedy to use, and it has a bunch of fantastic and genuinely useful features. Whether you’re looking to track everything about your health or simply want a stylish timepiece in the office, this is the smartwatch for you.

The first thing you’ll notice is the Apple Watch Series 7’s amazing display. It has an always-on Retina display with nearly 20% more screen area than its predecessor — the Series 6 — which means everything is much clearer and easier to see and use. It’s also Apple’s most crack-resistant front crystal yet so it’s highly durable thanks to its IP6X dust resistance and swim-proof nature. If you’re liable to knock your watch from time to time, you won’t have to worry so much here.

The Apple Watch Series 7 is powerful and starts off with the usual range of features. You can use it to receive notifications instead of needing to look at your phone. Also, you can track all your workouts, including monitoring the steps you take, the calories you burn, and other core details. However, the Apple Watch Series 7 keeps on giving. It also measures your blood oxygen levels via a sensor that is able to see what’s going on. It’s a useful extra tool in keeping you safe and healthy. In addition, the Apple Watch Series 7 can take an ECG at any time, so you’ll always know how well your heart is performing. Any time your heart hits an unusually high or low rate, you’ll also receive a notification with separate notifications if your heart is suddenly irregular. It’s a great way of keeping on top of your health in a hands-off but effective manner.

Should you shop these Prime Day smartwatch deals or wait until Black Friday?

Apple Watch SE 2 with 8 colorful watch bands.
Apple

Prime Day is one of the biggest retail events in the U.S., playing second fiddle only to Black Friday. That’s only because Prime Day is exclusive to Amazon Prime members and usually happens in July in celebration of Amazon’s birthday, whereas Black Friday is not retailer-specific and, taking place in late November, traditionally kicks off the holiday sale rush. The Prime Early Access Sale is happening much closer to the holiday season, so this “October Prime Day” is sure to attract deal-hungry shoppers looking to beat the Black Friday crowds.

Of course, the question arises as to whether you should even bother with the Prime Early Access Sale or skip these October Prime Day smartwatch deals in hopes of finding a better discount come Black Friday. The truth is that Prime Day deals are typically just as good as Black Friday sale offerings, and the Prime Early Access Sale isn’t likely to be any different (it’s essentially a second Prime Day sale aimed at holiday shoppers, after all). Our advice? Don’t wait.

If you’re a Prime member, take full advantage of this October sale and use it as an extra opportunity to scratch some items off your gift list and save some cash. But that’s the catch with this event — like Prime Day, the Prime Early Access Sale is exclusive to Prime members, so you may want to consider signing up (even for just one month) or taking advantage of a free Amazon Prime trial if you can. This will let you shop the Prime Day iPad deals, Prime Day smartwatch deals, and other bargains on sought-after tech items that are sure to pop up during the 48-hour sale window.

The Apple Watch remains the most popular smartwatch by a considerable margin, and is showing no signs of losing that market dominance any time soon. Although it’s not likely that we’ll see deep discounts on the new 2022 models that were just revealed, you can be sure you’ll see some October Prime Day smartwatch deals on last-gen models like the Apple Watch Series 7, which is still a great buy. Also expect to see discounts on popular Fitbit models, such as the Versa, as well Samsung’s Galaxy Watch line, which is a great option for Android smartphone users. Don’t hesitate to bookmark this page as well as our other ongoing coverage of the Prime Early Access Sale, as we’ll be sure to keep you updated with all the latest information and best smartwatch deals as soon as they pop up.

Best PlayStation Plus Deals: Save on Essential, Plus and Premium
Best PS Plus deals

While the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 are excellent consoles, especially for those who don't want to invest in a gaming PC, you tend to lose out on a lot if you don't have one of Sony's online subscriptions. You see, a PlayStation Plus (PS Plus) subscription offers, is access to online multiplayer, and without it, you can't connect to online servers and play with other folks, which is a bit frustrating. Luckily, a PS Plus membership does offer some additional features, such as free games every month and access to some older PS games, all of which depend on which of the three tiers you subscribe to: Essential, Extra, and Premium.
What is PlayStation Plus?
Along with online multiplayer and other in-game network features, a PlayStation Plus Essential membership grants you access to exclusive discounts and other promotions. Perhaps the most notable benefit of PlayStation Plus is that every month, Sony gives subscribers one PlayStation 5 and two PlayStation 4 games that are free to download. You have one month to add these free PlayStation Plus games to your library.

After that, these titles are yours to keep so long as you have an active PlayStation Plus subscription. The free-to-download games are generally pretty good (they are often some of the best PS4 games that have been out for a little while), and these alone justify the cost of PS Plus even for people who don't do a lot of online gaming.
