HP’s New Color Laser Printers Start At $799

They're not petite -- roughly 18 inches cubed and 73 pounds -- but HP's newest color laser printers won't take a big bite out of a small office's budget.

The Color LaserJet 3500 and Color LaserJet 3700 series are rated for up to 12 and 16 pages per minute and start at $799 and $1,299 respectively.

The host-based Color LaserJet 3500 ($799) and Ethernet print server-equipped 3500n ($999) come with a 250-sheet input tray and 100-sheet multipurpose tray; an additional 500-sheet tray is an option. The printers feature 64MB of memory (not expandable), a USB 2.0 port, and instant-on fuser for a fast first-page-out, even from power-saving mode; their monthly duty cycle is up to 45,000 pages, with print cartridges rated for 4,000 pages apiece.

The faster Color LaserJet 3700 ($1,299) and 3700n ($1,599) have parallel, USB 1.1, and EIO interfaces plus 64MB of memory expandable to 448MB, and are rated for up to 55,000 pages per month. Two additional models come with 128MB: the 3700dn ($1,999) adds an automatic two-sided printing unit, while the 3700dtn ($2,199) also has the 500-sheet extra tray for an input capacity of 850 sheets. Their print cartridges last for 6,000 pages.
