Facebook recaps 2012’s trends with “Year in Review”

It’s December 12, 2012, which in viewed differently means that it’s the last repeating month, day, year combination for this millennia. In the spirit of celebrating, Facebook has published its Year in Review – much like Twitter did yesterday

Facebook calls this trip down memory lane “a look back at the people, moments, and things that created the most buzz in 2012 among the billion people around the world on Facebook.” Each item on the list is separated into tiles of trends from 2012 that include the most popular memes, events, most-listened to songs, and more. Below this are trends from around the world including Australia, India, Italy, and other countries.

Many of the trends that you’d expect to find make the list including Obama and Romney under “Public Figures” and the U.S. Presidential Election; Hurricane Sandy and the London Olympics also make the top 10 “Events” of 2012. According to the Facebook check-in trends, Times Square, New York and Disneyland, California were the top two check-ins for U.S. users on Facebook this year respectively. 

Among tech trends on Facebook, we noticed that half of the list in the top 10 shared trending topics from Twitter’s year in 2012. You can see Facebook’s trending tech topics below:

Twitter offered a feature like this by partnering with Vizify to create personal infographics of your year. Facebook publishes your “Year in Review” instantaneously within the browser in a Timeline format, which also displays the friends and pages that you’ve added this year.
