Cell Phone Sales Down In Japan
Cell phones may have finally reached their peak in Japan with handset sales slumping for the second straight month.
Shipments in Japan of cell phone handsets, including personal handy-phone system (PHS) equipment, fell 3.8% in February from a year before to 3,494,000 units, down for the second straight month, an industry association said Tuesday.
Domestic shipments of cell phones, excluding PHS handsets, also posted a yearly fall for the second consecutive month, but rose 18.4% from the previous month due to the launch of new services for third-generation handsets, the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association said.
