By now you may have noticed if you send chats or group messages on Facebook, you are greeted with a checkmark at the bottom of the post when your recipient has seen your message. This can both be a good and bad thing; on one hand, you can call someone out on not responding if you know they’ve seen the message while on the other, if someone you don’t really want to speak to sends you a chat and you don’t want to reply, they will know you saw it and ignored them. So how do you avoid the latter type of confrontation? Why, with the Facebook Undetected extension, of course!
Developed by Crossrider, the extension works across most major web browsers: Safari, Firefox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer. You can install the extension in just matters of minutes to cloak your message receipts. Instead of the usual checkmarks readers get, it will remain blank like things formerly were on Facebook.
Of course, another way around this is to turn off Chat and just communicate via private messages so you can choose to open ones sent by close friends. However, if you like the messenger-style chats with your friends, this might be a simple way to hide from those you lack time to respond. Still, can we recommend you just delete the friends you never want to hear from again to avoid the awkward messaging? That’s probably the best way to give someone the hint that you don’t really feel like chatting with them — ever.
You can download Facebook Undetected here.
I don’t particularly care to turn off the feature but I will say his website is pretty cool. I love how it integrates FB comments. And the extension could definitely be helpful for certain situations
This is an awesome creation. I don’t so much fear for my privacy as I just think it’s super creepy to see the “so and so read this.” I don’t care if they read it…I just don’t need up to the minute notice of such things.
Off to download!
Slightly off-topic: If you haven’t signed up for Facebook, then 1) have you gotten spam from Facebook that includes in the pitch characters’ photos, different ones with each ad, always suggesting you know them? 2) have people on your contacts list told you they’ve received stuff from Facebook saying you were a subscriber? 3) if yes to either question above, then which email service are you getting the spam on?
FYI, although I have email accounts with Yahoo, NetZero, Google and Microsoft, I only get the Facebook spam on one service and at two people who I frequently email from that service have written me, albeit a year apart, to tell me that Facebook sez I’m a subscriber of theirs. Also, although I mark junk emails from Facebook, this provider continues to deliver Facebook’s ads to me. Worse, I created a new account with that otherwise terrificiinternet services innovator and provider yet the creepy Facebook stalking continues at the new address. Anyway, lemme know if I’m not the only this is happening to. If enough reply then maybe we can figure out if the info’s transferring direct to the F’ers from Mega-Email.com’s servers or if the leak’s in my o.s. or if the big F’er is really in the spyware biz. Thanks!
or you could just mark the message as unread….
This only works for computers! My friends on mobile can still see that I read!
