Google Stops Digging

Google has decided to abandon its plan to purchase social news site Digg.com, according to reports.

Last week it was going to happen – Google was set to purchase social news site Digg.com for $200 million. Now, according to blog TechCrunch, which broke the original story, the marriage is off again, as Google has decided not to go through with the purchase. No definitive reason was evidently given, but speculation has ranged from a clash of personalities to technological incompatabilities.

There’s been talking of interest in Digg from Microsoft and others, but whether Digg will look to its other suitors or go it alone remains to be seen.
