The VOOM satellite TV service from Cablevision and Rainbow DBS had about 8,000 activated customers as of April 30, the companies reported.
During the first quarter, Cablevision’s satellite services division reported net revenues of $1 million, consisting primarily of sales of satellite receivers and related equipment, the company said. The division’s operating loss for the quarter was $54.8 million.
During a first quarter conference call, Cablevision executives were upbeat about VOOM’s future, pointing out that last week the satellite TV service got key programming deals in place from ESPN, the Golf Channel and Fox News. They also cited VOOM’s deal with O’Rourke for national distribution of the product.
