Michael Jackson’s name has been used to sell a great many things, from Pepsi to Suzuki scooters…and now electronics giant Samsung wants to get into the game—albeit a tad late—announcing a new version of its Samsung S2 Portable hard drive pre-loaded with the Michael Jackson movie This Is It chronicling the rehearsals and preparation for Michael Jackson final tour…which never happened due to the star’s unexpected death.
“We are excited to present this movie starring Michael Jackson, the greatest entertainer of all time, pre-loaded on the Samsung S2 Portable,” said Samsung Electronics storage marketing VP H.S. Lee, in a statement.
The pre-loaded drives will launch in Europe on February 22, 2010, with availability in other markets still to be determined. The drive will offer 500 GB of storage capacity—minus space taken by the movie, of course—and runs off bus power on a USB 2.0 interface. The drive will also ship with Samsung’s standard Windows-only features an utilities, including Auto Backup and optional SecretZone encryption. Samsung hasn’t announced pricing for the special edition of the drive; the movie-free versions of the drive currently retail for less than $100.
