We got a chance to put our eyes on Samsung’s new 75-inch LED display today at an unveiling event held aboard the USS Intrepid Sea Air and Space Museum. While Sharp may hold the title for largest LED TV with its gargantuan 90-inch model, Samsung takes the trophy for the best designed ultra-large screen TV thanks to its micro-thin bezel and super-thin profile. We also found Samsung’s new “rose gold” color treatment a refreshing departure from the now commonplace chrome approach.
While we weren’t allowed to lay hands on the UN75ES9000, we did get a hearty serving of viewing time during our visit and were sufficiently impressed with its performance. While OLED TV technology remains superior due to its lack of motion-blur issues, we do think Samsung’s flagship ES9000 series closes the gap between LED and OLED in terms of black levels and contrast. With that said, we’re on the fence as to whether the ES9000’s additional 20-inches of screen adequately justifies its $10,000 introductory price tag. Then again, with bonus features like Sound Share –which streams audio to some of Samsung’s latest Bluetooth-enabled audio devices– available, maybe this TV has the right stuff to attract big spenders.
