Online storage start-up Dropbox is growing its operations. In a blog post on Sunday, the San Francisco-based company announced plans for its first office outside of the US.
Ireland has been chosen as the location for the new base, though an exact opening date wasn’t mentioned.
“Dropbox has served its users in 200 countries (including 10 users in Antarctica!) from just a single office in the States,” employee Mitra Lohrasbpour wrote in the post. “While it’s made for pretty awesome bragging rights, we’ve decided to listen to common sense and jump the pond. We’re excited to announce that Dublin, Ireland will soon be the home to the very first Dropbox overseas office.”
Lohrasbpour explained the move would mean its sales team will be able to converse with clients “at nearly all hours of the day,” while its user operations team will be expanded to offer support in more languages besides the current English, Italian and Spanish.
The blog post included a link to its jobs page showing Dublin-based openings for account managers, IT engineers and user ops engineers.
Choosing Ireland as the location of its new office sees Dropbox following in the footsteps of the likes of Apple, Microsoft and Facebook who all have bases there. The country has proved popular with firms looking for an overseas location thanks to its reasonable property rents and low corporate tax rate.
The news of Dropbox’s expansion comes a couple of weeks after the four-year-old firm announced its service had hit the 100-million-users milestone, quadrupling its user base in the last 12 months alone.
With the opening of its first international office, the team will be hoping to build on those numbers at an even faster rate as it battles against big-hitters such as Amazon, Google and Apple, who also offer users online storage services.
