LaCie has announced two new external double layer DVD burners, the 16x d2 and the ultra-portable 8x Slim FireWire or USB 2.0.

LaCie has announced two updated double layer DVD burners, with an ultra-slim drive designed by FA Porsche for portability and an ultra fast drive in the distinct d2 design for faster burn times. The new 16x d2 DVD±RW and 8x Slim DVD±RW each feature double layer DVD burning. The 8x Slim DVD±RW comes in either a FireWire or USB interface option. These all-in-one drives combine all popular CD and DVD formats in a stylish case, both available September 2004.

For faster performance at home or away, the multi-format LaCie d2 DVD±RW Double Layer supports a full 4.7GB DVD burning in about six minutes, and double layer burning in only 25 minutes-less than half the time of first-generation double layer drives. An easy-to-use interface allows people to create DVD movies in a matter of minutes complete with menus, thumbnails and backgrounds. Made of sturdy aluminum alloy, this product is designed for desktop or mobile use.
