Matsushita Aims To Be Top PDP Supplier
EETimes is reporting that Matsushita (Panasonic) is planning on buildinf a new fab that would make it the top PDP supplier in the world.
Matsushita will detail its expansion plan on Tuesday (May 18).
The fab is expected to begin operations in the fall of 2005 with a capacity of about 100,000 units a month. The capacity will be gradually expanded to 250,000 units a month by 2007.
Matsushita just launched operations at a second PDP fab in Ibaraki, Osaka, last month with a capacity of 40,000 units. Along with its first PDP fab there and another in Shanghai, Matsushita now has production capacity totaling about 80,000 units a month. With the second Ibaraki fab scheduled to double its capacity by next year, Matsushita will have established the yearly capacity of 1.5 million units.
