Doom 3 Currently Available At Some Stores

Forums all over the Web are full of Doom 3 discussions and some customers are reporting already being able to purchase the highly anticipated game at retail stores. Customers at some Maryland Best Buy stores reported being some of the first to get their hands on a retail copy of the game when the stores let them purchase the game over the weekend.

According to Doom 3 developer id Software, the game officially ships on August 3, with the official “street release” date being August 5 . Retailers and online merchants have been accepting pre-orders for weeks, at around $54 a copy, and apparently some retailers decided to sell the game upon receiving it.

Doom 3 is the latest installment of the Doom series, a first-person shooter game that started the popularity of the genre. The game is billed as a “terrifying battle with the forces of Hell.” The story line follows a “massive demonic invasion” that has overwhelmed the Union Aerospace Corporations’ (UAC) Mars Research Facility “leaving only chaos and horror in its wake.” As one of only a few survivors, you struggle with shock and fear as you fight your way to Hell and back, in an epic clash against pure evil. Built on id’s revolutionary new 3D graphics engine, DOOM 3 draws you into the most frightening and gripping 3D gaming experience ever created.
