AT&T Gives Verizon a Taste of Their Own Medicine

AT&T fires back at Verizon with its "Side by Side" commercial featuring Luke Wilson.

After losing a request for injunction, AT&T is fighting fire with fire by launching its own personal jab at rival Verizon “There’s a Map for That” Wireless.  Although the judge for the ad campaign lawsuit admitted Verizon’s commercials were “sneaky,” he basically handed AT&T a box of tissues and told the company to “walk it off.” Well, they did– looks like AT&T walked themselves right into an abandoned warehouse with Luke Wilson and shot this commercial.

AT&T will have a second chance to argue its case, but as for now, it looks like the ad war is on.

  1. AT&T ads tout last advantage over Verizon iPhone: talking while browsing at 7:34am 2nd February 2011 [...] in late 2009, when it and Verizon were trading blows over 3G coverage. Luke Wilson starred in the original commercials. The claim is still relevant, but talking and browsing simultaneously isn’t an activity that [...]

  6. Ian Bell at 11:07pm 19th November 2009 You can try using a cell booster: http://www.digitalantenna.com/prods/cellularsig...

Another thing for you to try is to switch from 3G to Edge while in your apartment. 3G has a tough time through walls or electrical interference. Just switch your iPhone to Edge while at home and then 3G if you want while out of the apartment. Edge will give you a lot longer battery life too.

    Hope that helps!
  7. MV at 10:48pm 19th November 2009 I've been a long-time ATT user and I had been very satisfied with ATT back where I've been living in Northern California. However, ever since I moved into an apartment in LA to go to college, I've been getting zero reception in my apartment. My Verizon friends, on the other hand, get full reception. This sucks because I just bought the iPhone 3GS a few months ago. But I need reception! I don't want to buy a landline and pay for it. I'm contemplating about switching to Verizon soon ...
  8. Bud Fox at 2:32pm 19th November 2009 Why is any celebrity ever in any commercial, and why do celebrities endorse products? Because we know them, like them, think they are funny..... and the number one reason, it gets people talking. If if you really disagree with AT&T's points, the best thing you can do is ignore it, otherwise you're just fueling their PR fire.

    P.S. I've been a happy AT&T customer for 10 years now.
  9. huh? at 1:54pm 19th November 2009 Why is Luke Wilson in this exactly? How is he an authority on cellphone networks?

Maybe AT&T should put throw money in fixing their network instead of the bloated Hollywood establishment.
  10. DenaCas at 12:49pm 19th November 2009 I'm just confused as to how this whole commercial got thrown together-- maybe Luke Wilson was just as enraged as they were and he called AT&T up and was like "hey, let's get these guys-- meet me at the abandoned warehouse on 5th... i'll bring my stand-up easel"
  11. Ian Bell at 12:35pm 19th November 2009 I am a happy AT&T customer, have been for about 10 years now. Verizon might be more reliable, but their phones suck. This commercial is kinda lame, but it's true at least.

BTW, why do I care about coverage in Wyoming? I don't live there....
  12. Lee at 10:54am 19th November 2009 I've had iPhones (original and now the new 3GS) and AT&T for 2 1/2 years in Las Vegas / Henderson, NV and never had a dropped call from my side. Almost all of the dropped calls I've had are those from my wife who uses her Palm Treo on Verizon. Initially, she stayed with Verizon because our daughters have that, but one of them already defected and bought an iPhone, which she loves. My wife is crazy about her iPod Touch and is getting an iPhone as soon as her current contract runs out. Hey, I'm just sayin'... If Verizon really wants the iPhone someday, they have a funny way of showing it.
  13. Michael at 7:49am 19th November 2009 AT&T claims in this new commercial MIGHT be true, but if you can't connect at 3G, then what good is having a cool smartphone?
  14. Tan Tuohy at 7:17pm 18th November 2009 This AT&T commercial is really funny in that it's opinionated. Sure, it's may be a good 3G experience, but only IF you get connected...
  15. Bob at 5:40pm 18th November 2009 ATT's commercial is hilarious. Talk about grasping at straws! Your "best 3g experience" claim is laughable, ATT. Verizon's commercial relies on facts and yours on opinions.
